The Cliff House
Building on the rugged terrain of Potton requires far more than a simple foundation; it is an exercise in high precision where the structure must embrace a rocky topography. For this project, the technical challenge lay in articulating a fragmented volume on a steep slope, demanding rigorous geotechnical coordination to ensure the building’s scale sits sensitively within its wooded environment. As builders, our role was to materialize this tension between protective opacity and targeted transparency. This attention to detail allowed us to respect the play of mass and proportion envisioned by the architect, while integrating stretched horizontal openings that frame the forest like works of art, without compromising the thermal performance of the envelope. The success of this residence rests on a clear constructive logic and uncompromising execution of the envelope details. By prioritizing sober and durable materials, we allowed the structure to dialogue with the Estrie landscape rather than imposing itself upon it. This stands as proof that close collaboration between architectural vision and technical mastery on-site can give rise to a perfectly controlled volumetric work, deeply anchored in its territory.
