The Waterhouse
The Waterhouse residence is defined by a fragmented exterior composition, where three articulated volumes form a silhouette that is at once domestic and sculptural. Unified by a continuous cedar shingle envelope, the architecture prioritizes the reading of masses, proportions, and rooflines over demonstrative gestures. The openings, carefully framed, alternate between elongated horizontal punctures and more punctual windows, creating a rhythm across the façade and a tension between protective opacity and targeted transparency. The interplay between verticality and horizontality, combined with a sober and durable materiality, lends the project a contemporary presence rooted in clear constructive logic and mastered volumetric expression. The structure is sensitively integrated into its wooded environment, where the site placement, the scale of the volumes, and the natural materials allow the residence to engage in a dialogue with the landscape rather than imposing upon it. The project demanded precise execution of the envelope details, junctions, and roof transitions to ensure durability, performance, and fidelity to the architectural intent.
